some things:

- i saw the band deerhunter last night. didn't care much for them.
- saw 'let the right one in' last week, and i liked bits of it more than other bits.
- in case any of you didn't know, lauren and i went to london for spring break. that was nice.
- i have about four weeks of law school left. after that, i'm taking the florida bar exam at the end of july. after that, i really don't know.
- i'm doing a mock trial next week - it's a murder case and i have to prove that guy was pushed and didn't jump. for this, i might get a haircut entitled "prosecutor's special"
- i'm reading books by charlie brooker.
- tv i'm currently following semi-regularly: 30 rock, delocated, free agents (series just finished), simpsons, charlie brooker's newswipe
- listen to the band mumford and sons
- i'm writing a seminar paper about this guy.
- new records from SFA, doves, art brut, decemberists, cursive, phoenix, king creosote... i'm a spoiled indie fan.

 hello lj friends
i don't post much in here, not sure who's still out there
had a lovely winter break. spent some quality time with loved ones, got yelled at by a mall security guard for giving a piggyback ride.
my friend tim came to visit from london - just in time for the national championship shenanigans.
yesterday was my last ever first day of classes, which is exciting. happy with the grades from last term.
no job leads yet for after graduation, but i'm working on that.
saw the wrestler the other day and by gum, it was ace.
if anyone in tallahassee still reads this, i'll be up next weds to see los campesinos! at the club. come and say hello.
it's london weather in gainesville today - no fun.
how are you all?

this has been a pretty bad week.

one friend's brother died.
my sister's job situation at lehman brothers is still a day-by-day wait-and-see deal.
kirk, though doing pretty okay, is still in bad shape.
(if you know kirk, and you haven't been keeping up - kirklawrence.blogspot.com/)
i scratched my car door on some labyrinthine bushes.

but then yesterday i got a call from my folks.
my aunt, uncle and cousin in new jersey all got their green cards.
after six years of waiting. that's fantastic! very happy for them.

and then, half an hour later, i got another call from my folks, after they got home and checked the post.
I got my green card.
It took four and a half years. As recently as last month, US Immigration thought i was two people. but now it's here.

benefits:
1. now, when I renew my drivers license, it will be for five years, and not just for one year at a time. also, i may be able to do it online, so i don't have to piss around at the DMV explaining circumstances to them which are totally out of the box that they're used to, making it a two-hour operation.
2. i don't have to apply for, wait for, and then receive, a work permit every year.
3. I CAN FINALLY LEAVE AND RE-ENTER THE U.S. AT WILL.

now, i don't have to say "i'm here on a visa that expired in 2004" anymore.

it's going to be an okay weekend after all.

on monday, i'll begin my final year of law school.

apart from a hiatus in 2002, i'll have been in school since 1987.

it'll be nice, when in april i walk across the stage, with a law degree.

what am i going to do after that?
where am i going to go?

i'll worry about that when i get to it.

hello.
here's the thing: it's looking increasingly probable that i'll be in tallahassee for a month this summer.
got a pretty neat internship falling into place
i'll be there from july 14th for about five weeks,
will you?
also, anyone got a spare room / know of a sublease?
i hope everything is well in all your worlds.

last post, i mentioned a legal note i was working on, provisionally entitled:

TICKETMASTER: YOU GUYS ARE ASSHOLES.

Well, i finished it, submitted it - with a tamer title, alas - and yesterday found out that it has been selected for publication in the next issue of the Florida Entertainment Law Review.

I'm going to be a published author!

It's very exciting.

yesterday was a nice afternoon.
i finished the first draft of a legal note about the ticketing industry, and after investing about fourteen hours in writing that beast, i went for a walk to the union to buy an ink cartridge and get some fresh air. it was a beautiful day, i was listening to tunes on my new mp3 player, and kept walking for another two hours, taking in parts of the UF campus i'd never been to before, stopping at the big library - the book i wanted to pick up was on loan - and then walking around some more.
it seems pretty silly and quaint, that i was really happy out walking around. simple thrills.
i listened to 'hold on now, youngster' and few songs from the new nick cave. he's the only man who can pull off words like prolix, jejune and myxomatoid in a lyric, as well as "bukowski was a jerk / berryman was the best", all on the same song. check out 'we call upon the author' on his myspace.

hey guys! it's me, samir!
i didnt have a computer power cable for a week and it was weird not being connected. i read two books.
my classes are all fine, thank you. this came up in a judicial opinion, my new favourite:

"'Pufnstuf' wears what can only be described as a yellow and green dragon suit with a blue cummerband from which hangs a medal which says 'mayor'. 'McCheese' wears a version of pink formal dress -- 'tails' -- with knicker trousers. He has a typical diplomat's sash on which is written 'mayor', the 'M' consisting of the McDonald's trademark of an 'M' made of golden arches."

i saw the film dedication yesterday and didn't much care for it, though there was one line that was very sweet.
last week we threw a party. nothing got broken, stolen, immolated or vomited upon, so i'd say it was a success.
i looked a bit like eddie argos, only for one night.
i think that kal penn teaching at penn is funny enough, but he can't really talk about stereotyping in the media, can he?
we're putting on a music law conference in a couple of weeks, but honestly the amount of work i'm putting in as treasurer is minimal.
might go and see band of horses next week.
though i haven't yet seen 'meet the spartans', i'm sure i will soon because those filmmakers grimly fascinate me.
matthieu flamini remains my hero.
i'm going to be turning 25 in a few days.  that's pretty old, man.

see you in another two months' time!

marla olmstead came into my parents' store today.

this wouldn't have meant a lot, had i not seen the documentary about her three days ago.

i didn't say anything - it's tough to say "i love your paintings" to a six year old and not sound creepy.

meanwhile, this england match is the shittest thing ever.

i got a friends of tom card last week - i was happier about receiving that, than i was about my law school admission letter.

my two teams are doing well - the real one and the fantasy one. i'm happy about that.

bonde do role cancelled their gig here. not happy about that.

second year of law school is like the first year of law school except you get to meet more people and do more work.

i did a 24 page case note about the noriega extradition case recently, it felt like a tyson fight.

i'm helping organise a music law conference here in february.

it's nice to be involved extra-curricularly.

yesterday went to the mexican restaurant to see the mariachi band play.

i removed half my subscriptions on google reader, and most of my podcasts on itunes, in an attempt to be more productive

that said, i'm listening to the best show on wfmu all the time. such as right now.

speaking of - http://www.phoobis.com/fot/rambocky_footlong.html

gainesville improv festival is in two weeks, i'm probably going to buy a festival pass so i can get into all of the seven shows. oncoming traffic is performing but i don't know anyone in oncoming traffic.

i don't blog too much anymore, nor do i eat well, nor do i watch television. can't believe i missed kid nation.

i bought some jeans.

excited for darjeeling limited.

ok bye.
